I work the opposite way. Does Goodwill or Savers pick up donations in Albuquerque?
Generally no. The big thrift chains are mostly drop-off only for everyday donations, and they typically will not take broken items or anything one person cannot lift — policies vary by location, so check with them directly. No. I am a for-profit reuse business, not a registered 501(c)(3), so pickups are not tax-deductible. Instead of a tax receipt, you get a Reclaim Receipt — a personal note after pickup telling you exactly where your items went and how much was kept out of the landfill.
Which is better, a pickup or a thrift drop-off?
They work well together. If your items are clean and resellable and you itemize taxes, a thrift drop-off gets you a receipt. For everything else — worn items, non-clothing goods, large or mixed loads, or just not wanting to drive — a free doorstep pickup is faster and keeps more out of the landfill.
